Lifesider Reflections Linocut Prints

£35.00

Five limited edition hand made prints of the Lifesider symbol reversed as if we are looking from the inside out. Hand painted forms reflecting the Japanese practice of Hitsuzendo or ‘the way of the Zen brush’ (painting an Enso circle) as an aspect of the wider practice of Sumi-e (painting with ink emphasising simplicity, spontaneity, and the capture of the essence of the subject). The upper, arcing shape represents ‘Giving shelter’ and the poem ‘Give shelter’. The central, circular shape represents ‘Sharing consciousness’ and the poem ‘Share consciousness’. It is an Enso circle, the painting of which is a practice rooted in Zen Buddhism where the brushstroke is seen as a manifestation of the enlightened mind and the circle represents the universe, emptiness, and the interconnectedness of all things. The lower, flowing shape represents ‘Encouraging life’ and the poem ‘Encourage life’. All three poems are in the Lifesider Poetry Collection and unified in the title poem ‘Lifesider’. The original ink brushstrokes were carefully and very faithfully transferred into linocut and printed onto paper already covered with watercolour. The shifting, cloud like watercolours represent ‘this trilogy born of the earth… from here the quietness of the quiet… a voice that speaks from life’.
