If the chance arises to encounter the parts of ourselves, that we didn’t know were there, until we happened upon them, or someone generously introduced us, we are fortunate. Knowing ourselves to any extent is an amazing experience. Then the work begins. The work of welcoming, of understanding, of noticing, of adapting, of smoothing, of accepting and at times giving way. This piece wrote itself really. The words of the chorus came and came and came and would not leave so I listened. Then the verses followed along. Chorus and verses! Like an actual song. I was writing this music thinking it was for other words and only after a while realised it was for this poem. The rhythms were true. The beat is pure.

About the composer
Gavin Birchall started writing poetry in early 2022. He started writing music a long time before that and has rediscovered how great it feels recently. He has studied and worked as a pharmacist, entrepreneur, company builder, designer, web developer, marketer, photographer, writer, meditation guide and personal coach. He lives with his wife and teenage children in Preston, England.
