The Lifesider Chair

£115.00

Witness ‘The Lifesider Chair‘.  Daubed with hand-scrawled poetry. In bright, colourful letters all the better to transmit their meaning. The title poem from the Lifesider Poetry Collection no less. No more. A sturdy, solid, arm-resting kind of wooden chair. The perfect place from which to ponder what it is good to do. Such things as giving shelter, sharing consciousness and encouraging life. Especially the latter which includes the first two. This piece of revitalised seateary was years in the making. Some might say all of time in the making. Which wouldn’t be inaccurate but may be too much. So, let’s say years. The words that ignited the poetry arrived in Summer 2022. The chair became in Autumn 2025. It is now on its way to unbecoming and perhaps it might do that with you. If you choose to have it in your life. It will sit you well. If you read the words they will live you well.

Process: Purchased at a recycling centre shop – the money goes to the Council. Hopefully to do good things with. Washed. Dried. Sanded. Washed again. Dried. Hand painted with white paint. Dried. Text written freehand with acrylic pen. Dried. A hand painted version of the Lifesider roundel takes centre stage on the seat, of the, erm, seat. Two coats of transparent indoor furniture polish. Lots of drying involved. This is raw, real, messy, art. There will be scratches and nicks and bumps and some of the paintwork will be ‘lived with’. When it arrives with you that is. It will happen as you live with it too. That’s the point. An opportunity to appreciate beauty and impermanence. It won’t meet some definitions of perfect but it is perfectly imperfect.

error: Ah, ah, ah. Ask nicley and lovely things might happen. Ta.
