The Winter came. And I ran. As I always do. No matter the weather. The footsteps in this piece crunch along frost covered paths as the music lifts with rhythmic piano and then sinks to a deep, slow, boundless place. The poetry sprang from the first line. As it often does. Reaching for the heavens. As it often does. Supported by a choir of rising voices before the piano returns and the melody follows the words into a ‘wild and active state’. My daughter recorded the sounds of her school bus which float in and out of this piece and anchor it in our human world. That’s the idea anyway. If I can ever truly produce music that sounds like it does in my head it will be interesting.

About the composer
Gavin Birchall started writing poetry in early 2022. He started writing music a long time before that and has rediscovered how great it feels recently. He has studied and worked as a pharmacist, entrepreneur, company builder, designer, web developer, marketer, photographer, writer, meditation guide and personal coach. He lives with his wife and teenage children in Preston, England.
