walk-and-talk-coaching

I write about change a lot.

The kind that arrives uninvited yet entirely natural, because change is how we live.

Walk & Talk Coaching is born of that same truth.

It’s an invitation to step outside, into movement and conversation, and let the path itself become part of the work.

what-why-how

When we walk, our bodies remember what our minds forget: that life unfolds step by step, not in leaps.

The steady rhythm of footfall, the spaciousness of sky, the shifting landscape — all combine to loosen what feels tight, to open what’s closed. It’s astonishing what is found on the path together.

In Walk & Talk Coaching, we move side by side. Conversation flows easily, unpressured by the stillness of a chair. The world becomes our room — hedgerow and horizon, sunlight and shower, the ordinary wonder of being alive. What we speak of changes too. Thoughts stretch; new perspectives emerge. Clients often find that the things that seemed tangled indoors become clearer outdoors.

You don’t need to be fit, fast, or outdoorsy. You only need a willingness to walk, to talk, and to see what arises. Sessions are paced gently, guided by your body’s rhythm and what feels right in the moment. We pause when needed, rest when called, notice what the land offers. The coaching remains integral — everything is included: your work, your relationships, your questions, your quiet.

Walking alongside a coach isn’t therapy in disguise. It’s a partnership — a moving dialogue that integrates conversation, awareness, and the wisdom of the body. As we walk, you might discover fresh clarity about a decision, a softening in an old story, or a sense of belonging that stretches wider than walls.

Sessions can take place near your home, along a local river, through parkland, or even in an urban landscape — anywhere the rhythm of walking can meet the rhythm of your thoughts. Many find that being outside dissolves the usual containers: rooms, roles, routines. The sense of confinement gives way to participation — in life, in landscape, in your own unfolding.

People often ask how many sessions they’ll need. There’s no fixed route. Some begin with a single walk and feel something shift; others choose a season of walking, letting each session carry them a little further. The journey is yours.

If you’re curious, begin. One conversation, one step. The rest will unfold as we walk.

ways-of-walking

walking-towards-home

A multi-day walk & talk coaching journey — three or four days on foot, through open landscapes and unfolding conversations. We begin with two shorter sessions, online or in person, to orient and prepare. Then we set out together: travelling by train or car to a starting point, walking each day from place to place, resting each night in a pub or guesthouse, our luggage carried ahead so we move lightly.

Each step becomes part of the work — pauses, lunches, vistas, and quiet moments along the way all offering space for reflection and renewal. You bring what matters most; the path brings perspective.

We finish where the journey naturally ends — a train station, a village, a place of return — and afterwards meet twice more for shorter sessions to integrate what has been found. Everything is arranged. You simply arrive, walk, and discover what’s waiting to be met.

walking-the-season

A season-long coaching journey held in movement and reflection. We begin with two orientation sessions — in person or online — to meet, listen, and clarify what calls for attention. Then, over several months, we walk together at living pace: full-day walks spaced a couple of weeks apart, each one a chapter in a wider story.

We travel light, carrying only what’s needed, pausing where the path invites — for conversation, quiet, or lunch in a nearby café. Between walks, life continues, offering chances to notice what shifts and what remains. The season closes with two integration sessions to gather what has been found and weave it into daily living.

Everything is arranged; you simply arrive, walk, and let the landscape and conversation do their gentle work. A season of walking into yourself, one step at a time.

Do I need to be fit or experienced to take part?

Walk & Talk Coaching is about reflection, not endurance. We go at a comfortable pace, with time to rest and take in the surroundings. It’s about presence, not performance.

We choose routes that suit the individual and the season — usually established public footpaths, park trails, or coastal paths. Safety, accessibility, and beauty all matter. You’ll know in advance what to expect.

We adapt. Sometimes we reschedule, sometimes we walk shorter routes, sometimes the weather becomes part of the experience. There’s no expectation to “push through.” How we prepare and what we wear matters.

Comfortable robust walking shoes that are worn in a little, layers for the weather, water, and whatever you’d usually carry for a gentle day outdoors. A small day pack is enough with snacks, water, sun tan cream, a hat and so on — luggage is only needed on multi-day journeys.

Neither, exactly. It’s coaching — conversation, reflection, and awareness supported by movement and nature. The walking simply helps loosen what’s held tight and connect thought, body, and place.

Sometimes. Silence arises naturally in good company. We walk, talk, reflect and rest in whatever rhythm serves the work.

Usually between 4 and 8 miles depending on terrain, weather, and conversation. Multi-day walks will cover more distance over more days. Ultimately we walk as far as is helpful and that fits our bodies. The distance matters less than the experience of moving together.

We plan routes that allow easy pauses or early finishes. The point is never to test limits, but to stay in contact with what’s true in the moment. Ultimately we get some transport to our overnight stop. Knowing when to change our plans and accept the moment is important.

I am not a trained mountain or walk leader — our routes are designed accordingly, avoiding remote or technical terrain. Walk & Talk sessions take place on well-marked public paths and in conditions suited to both of us. I hold professional coaching insurance that covers sessions conducted outdoors, and risk assessments are made for each walk. You are encouraged to take personal travel or accident cover if you wish.

It is important that an exchange of value is part of any coaching relationship. This kind of work, for you and me, is about exactly that, exchange. It is not about extraction as so much is today. The energy contributed by each of us should match. To that end I adopt a sliding scale of pricing to help meet your needs financially as well as developmentally. We discuss what price feels like a exchange that values us both. Get in touch if you would like to know some details and starting points.

Integral development coaching. It’s a whole-person approach to coaching that includes everything you bring — thoughts, feelings, body, relationships, work, meaning. It’s called integral because nothing is left out. We explore what matters most to you, and together, discover new ways of being that bring clarity, ease, and fulfilment. Have a look here for more information.

We start with a free chemistry call — a relaxed conversation to see if the fit feels right and what you’d like to bring. From there, we agree a rhythm and shape for the work that suits you.
